From 15 November 2025 through 15 February 2026, the exhibition “Freundschaft und Verherrlichung. Kunst und Politik unter Friedrich II.” will be on display at Schloss Britz. 300 years ago, Ewald Friedrich von Hertzberg and Bernhard Rode played a key role in shaping Friedrich II’s Prussia, both as politicians and as artists. The exhibition focuses on their extraordinary collaboration and the staging of Friedrich, also known as “Alter Fritz”. Thanks to numerous loans, the former splendour of the Britz mansion can be experienced once again.

Curated by Christian C. Schnell, Dr Martin Steffens and Rebekka Liebmann, the exhibition also features three contemporary positions. These engage with the exhibition’s content in various ways:

Deborah Jeromin explores historical silkworm breeding and production in Britz under Hertzberg.
Bodo Rott reinterprets Rode’s paintings in the former “Gallery”.
Thilo Westermann explores chinoiserie designs in Britz, highlighting the cultural references and trade relations with Asia that were established during the Baroque period.

Our VIA handsets enable visitors to access audio commentaries, helping them to gain a deeper understanding of the history on display.
